Limited Number of Tickets Still Available for ION Showcase Awards and Canon Shootout, Thursday at Lake Wanaka Centre

Event will be webcast live for those who can’t be there in person.

Lake Wanaka (14 August 2012) – The ultimate adventure lifestyle event, the World Heli Challenge, culminates this Thursday evening at 7pm at the ION Showcase Awards and Canon Shootout. There are a limited number of tickets still available for the evening’s festivities.

“This not to be missed black and white attire awards night will once again be the snow industry’s most spectacular evening,” says event founder Tony Harrington (Harro). “Some of the most incredible adventure lifestyle and snow sports footage ever documented will be featured on the big screen and simultaneously beamed via a live webcast to media partners in Australia, Asia, Europe and the Americas.”

The night features awards for photography, cinematography and winners of each day as well as the overall winners of the event.

Five top photographers vying for this year’s Canon Shootout photography awards created over 25,000 images, capturing the action and the lifestyle of the event, which will be viewed around the world. Each photographer selected one image from each category to be judged. Categories this year are:

  • Best Extreme Day Shot
  • Best Freestyle Day Shot
  • Best Carlton Dry Shot
  • Best Exide Batteries Shot
  • Best Canon Shot

All photos entered in the competition will be featured in a gallery on the World Heli Challenge website following the awards.

The audience will be treated to five “mind-blowing” five-minute documentaries, each capturing the spirit of the two-weeks of heli-accessed skiing and snowboarding and all of the off-snow adventure from a different perspective.

The helicopter pilots have also put together an edit using footage from ION Air Pro POV cams that were mounted on the helicopters for the event.

The highlight of the evening will be the announcement of this year’s winners of the two-days of heli-accessed competition.

Winners will be announced for the following:

  • Best Female Skier Freestyle Day
  • Best Female Snowboarder Freestyle Day
  • Best Male Skier Freestyle Day
  • Best Male Snowboarder Freestyle Day
  • Overall Top Three Female Skiers
  • Overall Top Three Female Snowboarders
  • Overall Top Three Male Skiers
  • Overall Top Three Male Snowboarders
  • Overall Best Male and Female Athlete of World Heli Challenge 2012

New this year, skiers will be pitted against snowboarders and only one will come out on top to be named the overall snowsports athlete from the Challenge.

Tickets are $20 and available at Base, the Lake Hawea Hotel, Racer’s Edge and the Federal Diner. Includes drink on arrival and entry to the After Burner Party at Opium.

Those unable to attend can catch the festivities via a live webcast on starting at 9pm (NZ time).
