Christchurch NZ's Charlie Lyons donned his first pair of skis at age 7. His roots are in ski racing and then park but eventually he gravitated to big mountain skiing.
In 2013 Charlie qualified for the Freeride World Tour ending his season ranked 9th.
Though actively competitive, Charlie is passionate about many other aspects of freeskiing. Outside of competitive skiing he likes to spend his time on planned trips, film projects and touring.
"Skiing has given me a gift and a pathway in life I always dreamed of as a kid. My fathers passion was diving and it gives me pride to know I am following my passion, as he did."
"I ski raced till I was 16, eventually I was sick of the inability to express my own vision of what I thought was possible. I started to freeski the following year and have never been happier in life than when I am in the mountains. The rush of skiing a big line or getting to the bottom of a competition run when you have skied the best you ever have is indescribable. "
This is Charlie's first World Heli Challenge.
